Kapalua Coastal Trail Tips
- Footwear: Wear comfortable trail shoes, as some sections can be rocky and uneven.
- Weather: Be prepared for warm and humid conditions, especially in July. The trail can be windy, so dress in layers.
- Hydration: Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated during your hike. You may find drinking fountains (and restrooms) at the ends of the trail at Kapalua Bay and D.T. Flemming beach.
- Wildlife: There are signs to protect the nesting habitats of nesting seabirds called ‘ua’u kani. Please be respectful and stay on trial. Also, keep an eye out for sea turtles and other marine life along the coast.
- Parking: We highly suggest parking at the D.T. Flemming beach lot and walking the trail from the East side going West. The parking lot at Kapaula Bay is tiny and often PACKED within the first few hours of the morning, so you’ll be way less frustrated if you park on the other side of the trail. Or if you happen to be eating at Merriman’s, they have a lot right next to the Kapalua Bay lot, so after lunch/dinner there is a great opportunity to walk the trail.
Accommodations and Amenities
The trail passes by several notable accommodations, including the Kapalua Villas and the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. One of the top choices is the Montage Kapalua Bay, which offers luxurious amenities like the five-acre Spa Montage, the historic Cliff House venue, The Sunset Luau at Kapalua, and world-class dining at Cane and Canoe. Even if you’re not staying at these resorts, you can still enjoy some of their amenities and make the most of your visit.
